To celebrate Halloween 2026, the depths of Le Donjon de Paris welcomed nearly 550 visitors across eight nights for another edition of Le Donjon Maudit. An immersive theatrical experience in which ten actors brought a cast of characters to life, each as monstrous as they were endearing.

But behind the costumes, elaborate sets and screams lay a far more human story than anyone might have expected.

Behind Every Monster Lies a Human Story

Le Donjon Maudit draws inspiration from the history of Paris, European folklore and iconic works of fantasy and horror. Jacques de Molay, the Knights Templar, the Black Death, alchemy and witchcraft all come together in a tale where history and legend become intertwined.

Captain Fracasse, the cursed pirate from Le Donjon Maudit 2026 in Paris, wearing a red and gold costume and a tricorn hat, holding a candlelit lantern beside an antique nautical chart in an immersive pirate ship setting.
Captain Fracasse, the cursed guardian of the Bermuda Triangle, deep within Le Donjon Maudit 2026.

Each character embodies a different side of human nature: Captain Fracasse and his fear of abandonment, Tata Vernière and her consuming jealousy, Marguerite trapped by her own fanaticism, and the Count, unable to accept the loss of his beloved. For centuries, his refusal to face the truth has driven him down a murderous path, turning him into a monster himself.

At its heart, this curse tells a story of love, grief and forgiveness. The experience takes visitors on a descent into the darkest depths of the human soul, leading to an unexpected conclusion.

Months of preparation went into bringing this edition to life, from scriptwriting and costume design to makeup, set design and special effects. At least fifteen people were involved in its creation and production.

Guillaume Bertrand and Léa Garcia worked closely together on the story and artistic direction, while the Donjon's costume designer Amanda Fahey helped bring the Donjon's creatures to life.

Another challenge was transforming our escape room sets into a theatrical stage every night, using specially designed modular installations created for the event.

The Monsters Retreat into the Shadows… Until Next Halloween

This year's edition has come to an end, but the memories remain. One visitor's review perfectly captures what we hoped to achieve:

"We experienced a range of emotions, from compassion and laughter to fear."

That was the true ambition behind Le Donjon Maudit: not simply to frighten visitors, but to tell a story that would genuinely move them.

A heartfelt thank you to our actors, our teams and the hundreds of brave souls who joined us on this adventure. Le Donjon Maudit will continue to evolve, with even more elaborate sets and new surprises planned for future editions.

In the meantime, the eight immersive escape room adventures at Le Donjon de Paris continue to tell their own stories all year round, in the heart of Paris's 10th and 11th arrondissement.

See you next year, and may the plague be with you!
